You can listen many radio station via a regular browser having the necessary plugins as realplayer installed. Links can be plugged into the browser (for links in Switzerland see: http://drs.srf.ch/drs.html)

Those livestream links can also be used in most audio players. Copy a link as this as url in a media player as kaffeine, it is even possible to save it as a mp3 file (after setting the stream save directory in the settings):

Other tools are streamtuner, audacious and streamripper. To send radio a stream server as shoutcast is available.
